What Re-Turn Tracker promises, what it does not, and what happens if a voucher or a machine lets you down.
Last updated 2 Oct 2026
The short version. Re-Turn Tracker is a record-keeping and reference tool made independently of Re-turn. The paper slip the machine prints is the voucher; the app holds a copy of it for your convenience. Machine locations and their status, which comes from other people's reports, can be wrong. Keep the paper until it is redeemed, and check the machine before a long trip.
1. Agreement
These terms govern your use of the Re-Turn Tracker mobile app and this website (together, "the service"), published by Info-Sphere Ireland Limited ("we", "us"). By using the service you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the service.
2. What the service is
Re-Turn Tracker helps you keep a copy of the vouchers that Deposit Return Scheme machines print, shows a map and list of return points with what other users have reported about them, and works out what a bag of containers is worth. That is the whole of it.
3. What the service is not
Re-Turn Tracker is not part of the Deposit Return Scheme. We are not Re-turn, we are not a retailer, and we are not connected to either. The app cannot issue, replace, top up, transfer or redeem a voucher, and it cannot pay you a deposit. The scheme's own rules — published by Re-turn — govern what a voucher is worth, where it can be redeemed and for how long.
Nothing in the service is financial, legal or environmental advice.
4. Vouchers
The paper slip is the voucher. The record in the app is a copy of its barcode and value, made by you, for your convenience. Whether a shop accepts a barcode shown on a phone screen is the shop's decision; many will, some will not, and none is obliged to. Keep the paper slip until the voucher has been redeemed.
The value the app shows for a voucher is the value you entered or counted. The app cannot check it against the machine, and a mistake in the app changes nothing about what the slip is worth. If you lose a slip, the app cannot recreate it, and we cannot compensate you for it.
Do not save vouchers that are not yours, and do not use the app to present a voucher that has already been redeemed. Attempting to redeem a voucher twice is a matter between you, the shop and Re-turn.
5. Machine information and reports
The app tells you which entries have not been confirmed recently. Machines move, close and break without telling us. The map is provided for convenience and without warranty of accuracy or completeness — confirm with the shop before you make a special trip.
"Working", "broken", "full", "no vouchers", "busy" and "quiet" are the reports of other users from the last day, the latest one winning. They are opinions from a moment in time, not a live feed from the machine, and they may be wrong or out of date by the time you arrive. We may remove, correct or ignore reports, and we may block a device that abuses them.
You may send a photo of a machine. Send only a photo you took yourself, of the machine, without people or number plates in it. By sending it you let us show it in the service, free of charge and without end, until you ask us to remove it. We check every photo before it is shown and may decline, crop out or remove any photo at any time without giving a reason.
The deposit values and the list of what a machine accepts are general information taken from the scheme's published rules at the time shown in the app. Re-turn's own rules always take precedence.
6. Your data and your responsibility for it
Your vouchers are stored on your device and not on our servers. That means we cannot recover them for you. If you change or lose your phone without a backup, they are gone. The app provides automatic backup (with Pro: your own iCloud on an iPhone, Android's own Google backup on Android), a backup file and a phone-to-phone transfer for exactly this reason, and we recommend using one of them.
If you choose to lock that export with a passphrase, the encryption is done on your device with a key derived from the passphrase you enter. We never receive it and never hold it. A locked backup cannot be opened by us, and a forgotten passphrase cannot be reset or recovered by anyone — the file becomes permanently unreadable. Keep the passphrase somewhere safe, or leave the backup unlocked.
See the privacy policy for what is and is not sent to us.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- send machine reports you know to be false
- scrape, bulk-download or republish the machine directory beyond what its licence allows
- attempt to gain access to the API other than through the app
- submit abusive content through the feedback feature
- use the service for anything unlawful, including any misuse of the Deposit Return Scheme
8. Intellectual property and licences
The service, its design and its written content are ours. The map is made from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors and © OpenMapTiles; when it cannot be reached, OpenStreetMap's own tiles are shown, © OpenStreetMap contributors.
"Re-turn" and the Deposit Return Scheme's names and marks belong to their owners, as do the names of the shops and retailers that appear on the map. Their appearance in the service indicates neither endorsement nor affiliation.
9. Availability
We aim to keep the service running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. The app's core function — your vouchers and the last copy of the machine list — continues to work when our servers do not; only live reports and additions wait for a connection.
10. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Irish law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service — including a voucher that was lost, refused, expired or recorded with the wrong value; a trip to a machine that was closed, full, out of order or not where the map said; or a report that turned out to be wrong.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights under Irish and EU consumer law are unaffected.
11. Free and Pro
Re-Turn Tracker is free to download and use, with no advertising. On the free plan it holds one unredeemed voucher at a time; the vouchers you have redeemed stay on the phone, and the list of them is part of Pro. Pro is an optional one-off purchase (€1.29 in Ireland, not a subscription) that holds as many unredeemed vouchers as you like and adds the past vouchers list, automatic backup (your own iCloud on an iPhone, Android's own Google backup on Android), backup files, reminders and the camera beam to a new phone. Restoring a backup you already have, and receiving a beam, are free. Pro is sold, and refunded, through the App Store or Google Play under their terms; it belongs to the store account that bought it and can be restored on another phone signed in to that account.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in another EU member state, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country.
